His life and books

Mary Saunders 1750-1829

Mary Saunders was born in 1750, the daughter of the Reverend Joseph Saunders 1720-1791 and the brother of Josiah Richardson Saunders 1753-1827.

She was married to William Gould 1748-1795, the son of Joseph Gould 1715-1777 and his wife Ellen Gilbert 1722-1792. William and Mary Gould lived at Barton House, Barton-on-Irwell near Manchester.

They had two daughters, Mary Gould 1780-1850 who was married to Dr Raphael Gillum 1769-1860 of Bath on 25 April 1816, and Harriet Gould 1781-1801 who died unmarried. They may also have had a son, William Gould baptised at St Ann's church in Manchester on 12 November 1777, but if so he died before the decease of his mother in 1829, as the daughter Mary was the sole heiress.

Mary Gould nee Saunders made her Will on 16 September 1828 and died on 1 November 1829 aged 79 years.
