His life and books

Ancestry of Nat Gould

The parents of Nat Gould came from Derbyshire country families.

His father, Nathaniel Gould 1824-1874, was a son of a family based for centuries at Pilsbury Grange near Hartington.

His mother, born Mary Wright 1827-1897, came from another yeoman family long established in Bradbourne.

They had three sons, of whom Nat was the only survivor to adulthood. The other two sadly died in infancy, and were buried at Prestwich near their Manchester home, but their names are commemorated on the gravestone of their mother at Bradbourne.

Nathaniel Gould. He was born on 21 December 1857 in Manchester, and died on 25 July 1919 at Bedfont, Middlesex.

Henry Gilbert Gould. He was born in October 1859, and died in 1860. He was buried in the churchyard of St. Mary the Virgin, Prestwich near his Manchester home on 23 October 1860 aged one year.
