Thomas Wilson was born on 13 April 1760 at Twyford in Derbyshire, the son of John Wilson 1720-1789 and his wife née Anne Cocks 1736-1764. He was baptised at Barrow-on-Trent in Derbyshire on 23 April 1756.

He was a London merchant in partnership with Gabriel Shaw, and founded the House of Thomas Wilson in Warnford Court in the City of London. In 1814, when he was named as an executor of the Will of his brother William Wilson, he was living in Hampstead in north London, but later moved to Montagu Street, Portman Square in the West End of London.

In 1798 he married Catherine Homfray, born in 1764 the daughter of Francis Homfray 1726-1798 of Wollaston Hall in Worcestershire and his wife nee Catherine Caswell, at Bathwick in Somerset (1). Catherine Wilson nee Homfray died on 21 March 1801.

They had a son Melvil Wilson, born on 27 December 1799 at Hampstead, and baptised on 27 August 1800 at St John's church parish church in Hampstead (2). He was a merchant in the business of his father at Warnford Court in London. He married Louisa Eleanora Stephenson. He died on 20 April 1868 at Metz in France. His Will was proved on 30 December 1868 (3).

Thomas Wilson married Elizabeth Mary Edwards, the daughter of Rowland Edwards and his wife nee Jane Fletcher, on 8 February 1803 at St Stephen's Coleman Street in London.

They had the following children:

Tudor Wilson. He was born on 19 November 1803 at Hampstead, and baptised on 21 May 1804 at St John's Hampstead. He died in 1804, and was buried at St John's Hampstead on 19 July 1804.

Stenson Wilson. He was born on 9 January 1805 at Hampstead, and baptised on 18 May 1805 at St John's Hampstead. He died on 30 December 1818 at East Barnet in Hertfordshire.

Rosa Wilson. She was born on 18 June 1809 at Hampstead, and baptised on 30 August 1809 at St John's Hampstead. She was unmarried, and died on 1 December 1878 at The Glen, Waltham St Lawrence in Berkshire. Her Will was proved on 4 March 1878 (4).

Forrester Wilson. He was born in 1812 at Hampstead. He married Elizabeth Keily, born in 1820 at Cork in Ireland. He died on 12 January 1878 at Whitedale House, Hambledon in Hampshire. His Will was proved on 4 March 1878 (5).

Their father Thomas Wilson died on 15 June 1829 at Portman Square in London aged 69 years, and was buried at Barrow-on-Trent in Derbyshire. His Will was proved on 6 July 1829.

His widow Elizabeth Mary Wilson nee Edwards died on 29 June 1862 at Twyford.
