Mootlow Farm

Joseph Redfern was born in 1825 at Tissington in Derbyshire, the son of Joseph and Ann Redfern.

He married Rachael Mould in 1848 at Fenny Bentley in Derbyshire. They lived at Tissington where he was farming 60 acres in 1851 and 113 acres in 1861.

They had the following children:

Francis John Redfern 1854-1893. He was born in 1854 at Mootlow in Newton Grange parish near Alsop-en-le-Dale in Derbyshire. In 1887 he married Ellen Bailey 1864-1926 at Alstonefield Wesleyan Chapel. She was born at Endon in Staffordshire in 1864, the daughter of James Bailey and his first wife Mary Moss 1840-1864. Francis John Redfern died in 1893 aged 39, and his widow was married to Joseph Gould in 1895. He was born on 9 December 1874 at Grindon in Staffordshire, the son of William Smith Gould and his wife née Rachel Smith. He died in 1941 aged 66 years.

Naomi Redfern. She was born in 1855 at Mootlow. She died on 6 July 1862 aged seven years, and was buried at Alsop-en-le-Dale.

Rachel Redfern. She was born in 1862, and baptised at Alsop-en-le-Dale church on 25 May 1862.

Their mother Rachel Redfern died in 1863 aged only 44 years.

Their father Joseph Redfern married Hannah Austin on 12 April 1864 at Alsop-en-le-Dale church.

They had a daughter, Ruth Naomi Redfern. Born in 1864 at Mootlow, she was baptised on 28 August 1864 at Alsop-en-le-Dale church. She was married in 1887 to William Henry Walwyn 1863-1932. She died in 1946 aged 81 years.

Joseph Redfern died in 1902 aged 78 years.

His wife Hannah Austin had predeceased him in 1899 aged 63 years.
