Jane Gould 1860-1929

Jane Gould was born on 22 October 1860 at Waterfall in Staffordshire, the daughter of William Smith Gould and his wife née Rachel Smith.

In 1871 she was living at home on Grindon Moor with her parents, but by 1881 she was working as a dairymaid at Stonyfold Farm in Elkstone, Staffordshire for James Salt (born in 1830) a farmer of 70 acres, and his brother John Salt (born 1835). Both brothers were born in Elkstone and unmarried. By 1901 she was working as a servant for James Salt, then at Rottenstone Bank in Elkstone, together with her daughter Lily Gould and her niece Susan Gould born in 1900.

By 1911 Jane Gould was living at 72 West Street in Leek, Staffordshire with her daughter Lily Gould (who was then aged 19 and working as a shirt machinist at a steam laundry) and her niece Susan Gould.

She died in 1929 aged 68 years.
