Elizabeth Wheeldon 1740-1816

Elizabeth Wheeldon was born in 1740, the daughter of John Wheeldon 1709-1780 and his wife nee Margaret Goodwin 1712-1788. She was baptised on 25 March 1740 at Hartington in Derbyshire.

On 18 November 1762 she was married to Thomas Melland 1740-1792 at Hartington. He was baptised on 10 April 1740 at Hartington, the son of William Melland of Under Hill near Earl Sterndale in Derbyshire and his wife nee Elizabeth Fletcher.

Thomas and Elizabeth Melland lived at Harley near Earl Sterndale, and had the following children:

John Melland. He was baptised on 10 July 1763 at Hartington, and lived at Ashford-in-the-Water near Bakewell in Derbyshire. He died on 7 February 1822 aged 58 years, and was buried on 10 February 1822 at Earl Sterndale.

Martha Melland. She was baptised on 8 February 1767 at Earl Sterndale. She died on 24 March 1782 aged only 15 years, and was buried on 28 March 1782 at Hartington.

Their mother Elizabeth Melland nee Wheeldon died on 10 July 1816, and was buried on 15 July 1816 at Hartington.

Her husband Thomas Melland predeceased her. He died on 24 November 1792 aged 52 years at Cronkstone Grange, and was buried on 28 November 1792 at Earl Sterndale where there is a gravestone to his memory.
