Richard Gould was the son of Richard Gould 1741-1820 of Pilsbury Grange and his wife Mary. He was born at Pilsbury Grange in 1780, and baptised at Hartington on 10 December 1780.

He married Alice Horobin 1796-1887.

Their children were as follows:

Mary Gould. She was born in 1816 at Longnor in Staffordshire. She was married to Samuel Belfield, born in Hartington in 1805, the son of Joseph and Ann Belfield of Hartington.
