His life and books

John Edensor 1711-1754

John Edensor was baptised at Hartington in Derbyshire on 4 March 1711.

He married Elizabeth Houghton (1) and was an apothecary and surgeon of Walsall in Staffordshire. He was trained as an apprentice to Eli Robinson 1693-1742, a town apothecary in Leek, Staffordshire (2).

John Edensor died on 23 January 1754 aged only 42 years and was buried at Hartington on 27 January 1754.

His infant son Richard Edensor was baptised at Walsall on 20 October 1753, and died on 25 February 1754 aged only 20 weeks. He was also buried at Hartington.

John Edensor evidently had no surviving children, and his wife must have predeceased him, as his estate passed to his sister Rachel.

There is a curious partly blank tablet in Hartington church beneath that of Ann Edensor which refers to William Edensor by name and two other unnamed brothers and three sisters. Presumably it was intended for John Edensor.
