Elizabeth Bateman was the daughter of Richard Bateman 1677-1761 and Sarah Gould, daughter of William Gould 1677-1772 of Pilsbury Grange.
She was the first cousin of her husband Ralph Sterndale 1721-1796, and the granddaughter of William Gould of Pilsbury Grange and his wife Mary Hollis.
She died on 5 May 1755 aged 32, and was buried at Hartington where there is her gravestone in the churchyard.
