Alsop-en-le-Dale Church

Samuel Hambleton was born in 1879 at Stanshope in Ilam parish in Staffordshire, the son of William Hambleton and his wife nee Mary Lowe 1844-1928. His father was a stone mason, and he followed him into the same trade.

When the 1891 Census was taken however, he was working as a farm servant at Cross Green Farm, Cross Green Lane at Leeds in Yorkshire. He was employed there by his uncle Anthony Austin, a farmer and market gardener born in 1832 at Milldale in Alstonefield parish in Staffordshire.

He married Mary Ellen Elizabeth Allen in 1900 at Alsop-en-le-Dale church.

In 1901 they were living at Alstonefield in Staffordshire, but by 1911 they were at Kingsterndale near Buxton in Derbyshire, where Samuel Hambleton worked as a stone mason in the lime industry.

They had the following children:

Elizabeth Ellen Hambleton. She was born in 1902.

Ada Hambleton. She was born in 1904.

Charles William Hambleton. He was born in 1905.

Frederick Hambleton. He was born in 1908.

Samuel Hambleton. Born in 1911, he married Elsie Gould in 1932 at Alstonefield Wesleyan Chapel. He died in 1977, and was buried at Alstonefield.

Their father died in 1963 aged 84 years.

His widow died in 1963 aged 86 years.
