Nat Gould

His life and books

Press Articles

Although Nat Gould must have written and received many letters during his lifetime, it is unfortunate that almost none appears to have survived.

However a letter (1) to an unknown recipient (probably a publisher) who had requested a short article has survived. It was sent from Wotton Grange in Bedfont on 17 July: the year is unstated but must have been 1897-1899 (2).

Two short notes (3) also survive that seem to have been sent with it (4).

As well as writing numerous short stories for newspapers and magazines that were never re-published in book form, and serialised longer stories that were, Nat Gould also wrote a number of non-fiction articles for the press. They include the following:

1895 Personal Recollections of Carbine
1895 Starting Machines
1895 An Australian Stud Farm
1895 A Colonial Racing Stable
1895 Australian Horses
1895 Australian Stage Reminiscences I
1895 Australian Stage Reminiscences II
1895 Boxing Day in Australia
1896 Australian Stage Reminiscences III
1904 Kangaroo Hunting in Australia
1904 The Australian Native Police
1904 Sheep Farming in New Zealand
