Kate Horobin was born in 1828 at Earl Sterndale in Derbyshire, the daughter of John Horobin 1779-1845 and his wife née Elizabeth Wilkinson 1785-1865.

When the Census was taken in 1851 she was living with her then unmarried victualler brother Thomas Horobin, her sisters Ann Horobin and Hannah Horobin, and widowed mother Elizabeth Horobin née Wilkinson.

On 28 April 1859 she was married to Joseph Housley 1822-1891, the son of George Housely of Monyash in Derbyshire.

They kept the Gibraltar Inn on the corner of Grimshaw Lane at Newton Heath in Manchester, later renamed The Kippax.

They had the following children:

John Housley. He was born in 1860 at Pendlebury in Lancashire.

Elizabeth Housley. She was born in 1861 at Pendlebury, and baptised at Earl Sterndale 22 September 1861.

Joseph Housley. He was born in 1863 at Newton Heath.

Margaret Housley. She was born in 1866 at Newton Heath, and was married to William Harrison. They had the following children: Elizabeth Harrison 1889-1905, William Harrison 1893-1894, and Kate Harrison 1895-1896.

Their mother Kate Housley née Horobin died on 15 February 1895 at Newton Heath in Manchester aged 67 years, and was buried in Philips Park Cemetery in Manchester.

Her husband Joseph Housley had predeceased her on 10 May 1891 aged 69 years (1), and was buried in Philips Park Cemetery, where there is a gravestone inscribed to his memory and that of his wife and three of their grandchildren.
