Thomas Bennington was baptised on 18 July 1731 at Wendling in Norfolk. He was the son of Thomas Bennington and his wife nee Anne Bateman.
He married Elizabeth Palmer on 3 November 1754 at Gressenhall in Norfolk. She was born in 1734, died in December 1787 at Gressenhall, and was buried there on 15 December 1787.
