Henry Dain was born in 1779 at Upper Hall in Derbyshire.

He married Margaret Walters 1788-1842 of Hartington by licence at Hartington on 18 September 1813. By 1841 they were living at Friden Corner, Newhaven where he was farming 180 acres.

They had the following children, all baptised at Hartington:

Henry Dain. He was born in 1808 at Pike Hall in Derbyshire, and baptised on 22 February 1814 on the same day as was his sister Margaret Dain. He died in 1890, and was buried at Biggin in Derbyshire on 14 February 1890 aged 82 years.

Margaret Dain 1814-1848. She was born in 1814, and baptised on 22 February 1814. On 24 March 1846 she was married at Hartington by licence to Henry Flint of South Wingfield in Derbyshire.

William Dain. He was born in 1816 at Newhaven in Hartington parish in Derbyshire, and baptised on 17 March 1816. He married Mary Shaw by licence at Biggin on 18 December 1848. In 1861 they were living at Newhaven House, farming 318 acres. Mary Dain died in 1881, and was buried at Biggin on 16 April 1881 aged 64 years. William Dain died in 1898 aged 83 years.

John Dain. He was born in 1818 at Newhaven, and baptised on 14 June 1818. He died in 1889, and was buried at Biggin on 4 October 1889 aged 71 years.

Sarah Dain. She was born in 1821 at Newhaven, and baptised on 30 July 1820.

Ralph Dain 1822-1863. He was born in 1822 at Newhaven, and baptised on 23 April 1822. He married Elizabeth Ann Gould 1827-1868 on 5 March 1855 at Earl Sterndale in Derbyshire, and by 1861 was at Back Farm, Biggin Moor in Hartington parish. He died in 1863, and was buried at Biggin in Derbyshire on 27 November 1863 aged 41 years. His wife died in 1868, and was buried at Biggin on 8 May 1868 aged 40 years.

Thomas Dain. He was born in 1823 at Newhaven, and baptised on 30 December 1823. In 1861 he was unmarried and farming 190 acres at Old House Farm, Old Bells Head in Hartington, employing five men. Living with him were his unmarried brothers Henry (a farm servant) and John (a dealer in bones). He died in 1869,and was buried at Biggin on 26 December 1869 aged 55 years.

Mary Dain. She was born in 1826 at Newhaven, and baptised on 25 July 1830.

Charles Dain. He was born in 1827 at Newhaven, and baptised on 12 March 1827. In 1871 he was still unmarried and farming 219 acres at Bank farm in Hartington. By 1881 he had married Amy E. (maiden surname unknown) who was born in Manchester in 1856, and were then living at Dale End in Hartington. He died in 1882, and was buried at Biggin on 15 May 1882 aged 55 years.

Their father Henry Dain died in 1857, and was buried at Hartington on 13 March 1857 aged 77 years.
His wife Margaret Dain had predeceased him in 1842, and was buried there on 24 February 1842 aged 54 years.
