Alexander Cyril Gould was born on 13 May 1870 in Sheffield, the son of Thomas Gould 1841-1908 and his wife nee Frances Harriet Sharpe 1850-1898, and was baptised at Sheffield Cathedral on 1 July 1870. He was educated at Repton School in Derbyshire from January 1885 to April 1887 (1).

His father was a solicitor in the firm of Gould and Coombe in practice at 4 Paradise Square in Sheffield. The firm had been founded in 1787 as Brookfield & Gould.

In 1871 the family were living at Victoria Road, Ecclesall in Sheffield, but had moved to Endcliffe Crescent in Sheffield by 1881. In 1891, his mother was living with three of her children including Alexander Cyril Gould at 25 St. Mary's Road, Kensington in London. His father Thomas Gould meanwhile stayed in Sheffield.

In 1895 Alexander Cyril Gould married Beatrice Grace Margaret Cooke at Lewisham in London. She was born in 1875 at Notting Hill in London. They had the following children:

Aubrey Roy Gould. He was born in Bayswater in London in 1896. He changed his surname to Moreton in 1919, and died in 1964 at Hastings in Sussex.

Eric C.S. Gould. He was born at Hyde Park in London in 1898.

Dudley N. Gould. He was born in Bayswater in London in 1901.

Hector Gould. He was born in Bayswater in London in 1903.

Granville Gould. He was born in Bayswater in London in 1906.

Geraldine Gould. She was born in Notting Hill in London in 1910.


In 1901 the family were living at 20 Burlington Road, Paddington in London. Alexander Cyril Gould was then 32 years old and described as being a medical student.

In 1911 Beatrice Gould was living with her six children in a four-roomed house at 29 Blenheim Crescent, Notting Hill in London.

Alexander Cyril Gould died in 1942 at Hendon in London aged 71 years.
